Reasons for framing effects

Article Abstract:

A study examines the 'framing effect' in which a variation in description of a situation leades to different responses by decision makers. When pressed, most subjects are found to insist that the two versions of a problem presented are not equivalent and present reasons for their distinguishing the situations. That changing the frame, or description, of the situation is a significant alteration of the situation is believed by many subjects. Reference is made to the work of Kahneman and Tversky.
