Reflections on prevention in dieting-induced disorders

Article Abstract:

Literature has recognized the prevalence of eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa as a social problem in the 1970s. Thus, writers have started a campaign for its prevention, which was primarily centered at the discouragement of dieting as they consider this the primary factor inducing eating disorders. However, their efforts did not pay off as dieting became a normative activity among adolescents.

Eating-related thought suppression in high and low disinhibitors

Article Abstract:

Research into the impact of the efforts by high and low disinhibitors to suppress thoughts about food and eating is presented. It was found that high disinhibitors were more successful than low disinhibitors at suppressing such thoughts. In the nonsuppression condition, high disinhibitors had substantially more thoughts than low disinhibitors.
