Risk for substance abuse: memory as a common etiological pathway

Article Abstract:

Memory processes may influence the causal chain in which antecedents of alcohol and drug abuse affect drinking. Results of studies on alcohol expectancies were consistent with a memory framework. The results have advanced knowledge on how consumption may be influenced by memory representations of biological and environmental characteristics. In addition, findings showed that expectancies can be influenced to produce decreases in drinking through the development of challenge procedures.

Hierarchical confirmatory factor analysis of the child behavior checklist/4-18

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the 2-factor 2nd-order structure of TM Achenbach's Child Behavior Checklist using the hierarchical confirmatory analysis. A sample of 577 children with serious emotional disturbance were tested. Despite a number of methodological differences between the study and Achenbach's research program, results were consistent with Achenbach's conceptualization of the broadband structure.

Expectancy for social facilitation from drinking: the divergent paths of high-expectancy and low-expectancy adolescents

Article Abstract:

Analysis of the covariance structure modeling suggests the influence of expectancy before drinking on the alcoholic pattern of adolescents and adults. The observed reciprocal reinforcement between expectancy and drinking is due to social facilitation from alcohol. This drinking habit can be avoided by preventive measures prior to the beginning of drinking behavior.
