Sexual abuse and adolescent maladjustment: differences between male and female victims

Article Abstract:

Comparison was made between the emotional and behavioral problems as well as suicidal tendencies in male and female adolescents with history of sexual abuse with those in a control group without any history of sexual abuse. Analysis of the comparison shows that sexually abused boys and girls revealed more emotional and behavioral problems and suicidality than those who were not sexually abused. The differences in emotional and behavioral problems, and suicidal thoughts and behavior, as well as the issue of gender differences in relation to sexual abuse were also identified.

Addiction-risk behaviours and suicide attempts in adolescents

Article Abstract:

Research across a sample of 6084 Dutch secondary school students from 16 to 19 years who answered a Monitoring-the-Future Questionnaire showed a strong relation between addiction-risk behaviors and suicidal behaviors. Hard drugs indicated the highest incidence of suicidal behavior. Multiple risk conditions were practically in an increasing linear relation to the percentage of suicide attempts.
