Shapes of behaviour
Article Abstract:
The Eshkol-Wachman (EW) movement notation meets all the requirements in constructing abstract visual images which include the capacity to serve as a record, for systematising, for communication and for formulating ideas in symbols that enable ethologists to grasp structure through a manageable scheme. It was deemed that the EW notational system is more than sufficient and can equally encompass the domain of three-dimensional shape in the discourse of shapes of behavior.

Animal motility: Gestalt or piecemeal assembly?
Article Abstract:
Ilan Golani's view on describing complex animal behavior objectively, receives acceptance despite the fact that his Eshkol-Wachman (EW) notation is perceived to lead to a formalism that espouses a revelation of intrinsic behavioral organization. It was also suggested that common language, compared to EW notation will provide a useful tool in determining how movements are programmed or organized which is not provided by EW.

Eshkol-Wachman movement notation and the evolution of locomotor patterns in vertebrates
Article Abstract:
Ilan Golani's claim that the Eshkol-Wachman movement notation system is useful in the study of the neurobiological basis of behavior was tested using a neuroethological analysis of the fish C-start movement. The results of the analysis were supportive of Golani's claim and it was suggested that the Eshkol-Wachman approach can be a useful tool for studying the evolution of locomotor patterns.
