Six-year course of bulimia nervosa

Article Abstract:

The long-term course and outcome of the bulimia nervosa-purging type is examined using 2- and 6-year outcome information derived from 196 consecutively-treated female patients. Results show the positive impact of the therapy, a slight decline after the 2-yr period and the subsequent improvement and recovery by the 3rd to 6th year. Almost 60% achieved positive results, 29.4% achieved intermediate results and 9.6% poor results.

Six-year course and outcome of anexoria nervosa

Article Abstract:

A German 6-year study of anorexics indicated that anorexia nervosa is a very persistent illness, which often is not completely cured. The patients involved in the study showed a pattern of improvement initially whilst undergoing treatment, but a decline for around two years, followed by further improvement. Treatment of anorexia nervosa will be more successful if patients have greater access to follow-up care.

Long-term stability of eating disorder diagnoses

Article Abstract:

Various data-sets are used to demonstrate the stability of various eating disorder (ED) diagnoses (DSM-IV) over a long period of time in female patients. The findings show that the disorder anorexia nervosa (AN) shows high stability, whereas bulimia nervosa (BN) shows the greatest variability.
