Synaptic depression: a dynamic regulator of synaptic communication with varied functional roles
Article Abstract:
Studies have shown the synaptic depression has the potential to contribute to the properties and functions of neural networks. A theoretical model, for example, posits a relation between the amount of transmitter released and the depression in cortical cells. This potential, howver, is difficult to prove because experimentation will involve modifying the degree of syntaptic depressions within a network and documenting the effects of the changes on the output of the network. Future studies will have to establish the mechanisms of synaptic depression.
