Tax knowledge and attitudes towards taxation; a report on a quasi-experiment

Article Abstract:

The effects of improved tax knowledge on people's attitudes towards taxation are studied. Results show that increasing tax knowledge improves perceptions about the fairness of the tax system thereby encouraging tax compliance and preventing tax evasion. It is also suggested that tax law should be made a part of the social science education in schools to encourage perceptions on the fairness of the tax system.
