Test meal intake in obese binge eaters in relation to impulsivity and compulsivity

Article Abstract:

A study to show that patients with binge eating disorder in addition to consuming more of a liquid test meal would have more impulsivity and compulsivity scores compared to their non binge eating disorder patients is conducted. Findings reveal that men show higher impulsivity scores than their women counterparts even though binge eating disorder status was controlled.

Integration of impulsivity and positive mood to predict risky behavior: Development and validation of a measure of positive urgency

Article Abstract:

Three studies are conducted to develop and validate a measure of the tendency to act rashly in response to positive affective states (positive urgency). The construct of positive urgency is shown to be different from impulsivity-like constructs, its relations with risky behaviors are tested, as also its ability to differentiate among disordered groups.

Clarifying the role of impulsivity in bulimia nervosa

Article Abstract:

Research with a group of women college students showed a lack of planning was not a significant personality trait in those with bulimic symptoms. However, the tendency to act impulsively when confronted with negative experiences was correlated with bulimic behavior, suggesting a sense of urgency is a risk factor for bulimia nervosa.
