The National Women's study: relationship of victimization and posttraumatic stress disorder to bulimia nervosa

Article Abstract:

A survey of 3,006 women was conducted to find out the relationship between sexual victimization and the incidence of bulimia nervosa. Results confirm earlier research that sexual assault increases the occurrence of the disorder and helps prolong it. Furthermore, the presence of assault characteristics such as the feeling of being endangered is enough to aggravate the disorder.
