The impact of a job redesign intervention on salespersons' observed performance behaviors
Article Abstract:
The effects of job redesign intervention on the performance of a large department store's sales staff was examined by means of a field experimental design. Six departments were randomly selected, with three randomly placed in the experimental group and three in the control group. Fifteen employees were in the experimental group and 17 in the control group. Both functional and dysfunctional performance behaviors improved during the design intervention, but statistical analysis showed that only the dysfunctional behaviors dropped significantly. Control group performance behaviors stayed relatively constant through all of the experiment's phases. Quasi-experiment sub-analysis showed that salesperson job satisfaction was generally affected positively by the redesign.

Visions of current and future issues in organization development
Article Abstract:
An examination of the field of organizational development (OD) reveals that OD consultants and practitioners are increasingly confronting various significant issues that are affecting current and future prospects, including: defining what OD professionals do; defining OD competency; and defining dependent client relationships. The success of the future of OD will depend on OD professionals' ability to: increase skills and knowledge to cope in diverse systems; learn from clients and listen to them; and increase efforts to be more trustworthy with other OD practitioners.
