The impact of positive and negative affect and issue framing on issue interpretation and risk taking

Article Abstract:

The influence of positive and negative affect and issue framing on issue interpretation and risk taking was investigated. Two experiments were conducted to determine the nature of interaction between transient affective states and issue framing. Results show that there is a greater likelihood for individuals in a positive mood to interpret strategic decision making as an opportunity and to display lower levels of risk taking. In contrast, individuals in a negative mood are more likely to interpret the strategic issue as a threat and to display higher levels of risk taking.
