The mathematics of marital conflict: Dynamic mathematical nonlinear modeling of newlywed marital interaction
Article Abstract:
The use of nonlinear equations have formed the basis of a model of marital interactions, in an attempt to combine the mathematical insights of von Bertalanffy with general system theories of family systems. To find a practical example of von Bertalanffy's Q-variable, a report by Gottman and Levenson was used, breaking down the rate of change of the variable for each spouse into the sum of three terms. The model enabled the influence of enduring qualities of the individual on the uninfluenced steady state to be separated through the control of first-half influence parameters.

The effectiveness of marital counseling in Germany: a contribution to health services research
Article Abstract:
There seems to be potential for improving the effectiveness of clinic marital counseling in Germany, especially in relation to reducing sexual dissatisfaction and improving parent-child interaction. It may be possible to achieve this goal by training future marital therapists in marital therapy approaches that are specifically aware of the relatively short-term nature of counseling. Further research on this subject using more refined procedures is required.
