The relationship between dieting and body image, body ideal, self-perception, and body mass index in Turkish adolescents

Article Abstract:

A study examined the roles of body image, ideal body weight, self-perception, and body mass index (BMI) on the dieting behavior of Turkish adolescents. The results indicate that a thinner body ideal, low self-worth, and low physical self-concept have more significant effects on body dissatisfaction and dieting than being actually over-weight does.

Binge eating and psychopathology in severely obese adolescents

Article Abstract:

This article examines psychological traits that may be associated with binge eating in severely obese teenagers. The authors, employing a number of psychological tests, conclude binge eating symptoms among obese teenagers was associated with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and poor body image.

Psychosocial correlates, outcome, and stability of abnormal adolescent eating behavior in community samples of young people

Article Abstract:

Abnormal eating behavior in adolescence and young adulthood is associated with various indicators of psychosocial maladaption. In adolescence, it does not significantly predict any psychiatric disorder including eating disorder in young adulthood and it is predominantly a transient feature.
