The role of decision processes in conscious recollection
Article Abstract:
Dual-process models of recognition memory hold that a fast-acting, retrieval process produces the subjective state of a general sense of familiarity while a slower acting, controlled process produces a subjective state of a specific conscious recollection of prior experiences. The remember/know paradigm model has been used to study the subjective states of familiarity and conscious recollection. An alternative two-criterion signal detection model has been suggested as an alternative to the remember/know paradigm. The model and an empirical test that confirmed its hypothesis are evaluated.

Greener beaches
Article Abstract:
Thailand's government is initiating moves to stop the pollution problem of the country's two major beach resorts. The resorts, Pattaya and Phuket, have been declared as pollution control areas by the government. This gives the government the power to regulate development activities in the two resorts and conduct education campaigns on pollution within the resort areas. Wastewater treatment plants will also be built in the resorts. The designation of pollution control areas is contained in a provision of the country's National Environmental Quality Act.
