Violence and mental health: perspectives from the World Health Organization's World Report on Violence and Health

Article Abstract:

The first World Report on Violence and Health was released by the World Health Organization (WHO) on 3 October 2002, which took three years in making and over 160 experts from 70 countries. The main aim of the report is to create awareness among the people about violence, which is a global public health problem and the measures to understand and prevent it.

The unconscious cost of good fortune: implicit and explicit self-esteem, positive life events, and health

Article Abstract:

Studies reveal association of positive life events with better health in the case of persons with high self-esteem, while the reverse was true for persons with low self-esteem. It was found that the effects of implicit self-esteem were statistically independent of the effects of explicit self-esteem.

Suicidal behavior in a global public health perspective

Article Abstract:

Investigations reveal that 815,000 persons died due to suicide throughout the world in the year 2000. Suicide is an important public health problem and so longitudinal research studies are required to understand the factors in suicidal behavior.
