Chuck Close: painting as performing art
Article Abstract:
Painter, printmaker and photographer Chuck Close has been confined to a wheelchair since 1988 when he was 48 and diagnosed with anterior spinal artery syndrome. He is one of the most respected artists of his generation and the Museum of Modern Art will have a major retrospective of his work in early 1998. Close believes much of his art is intuitive.

Jennifer Tipton, noted lighting designer for stage and dance productions, is interviewed about the art of lighting design. Tipton's main influence was Thomas Skelton, with whom she studied and worked. Tipton discusses lighting techniques with different stage genres, the creation of skies through lighting, and her inspirations for lighting design.
