Divisions of diversions

Article Abstract:

Products for the renowned musical instrument producer Yamaha Corp. are designed by a group of 25 designers at Yamaha Product Deign Lab in Hamamatsu, Japan. The designers work together in one room and are rotated to different product divisions to remain fresh. They follow the company's five design principles: integrity, innovation, aesthetics, unobtrusiveness, and social responsibility. The company's motorcycle division has, over the years, surpassed the instrument division in revenues.

The rise and curdling of modernism

Article Abstract:

The selection of a design approach needs to be appropriately made in order for the intended graphic-based message to be conveyed to its target audience. For modern design in the visual arts to successfully accomplish its purpose, it should both communicate and emotionally engage the viewer. Good design, whether modern or otherwise, seeks to both artistically and realistically present its ideas and message, regardless of the medium used to generate it.
