Michele de Lucchi: architect of objects
Article Abstract:
Michele de Lucchi is an Italian product designer who participated in the Alchymia and Memphis design groups. He studied architecture in Florence, Italy, and his product designs reflect this comfort with the home environment. De Lucchi says that Italian designers tend not to specialize but see the global relationship between design and the environment. The Memphis group, which now is defunct, was provocative and astonishing, while the dominant design schools today are more quiet and intimate. De Lucchi's mentor was Ettore Sottass, with whom he still occasionally works.
