PostScript: a matter of interpretation
Article Abstract:
Three different PostScript interpreter programs, Custom Application's Freedom of Press, Laser Connection's Ultrascript PC Plus and Laser Go's Goscript Plus Edition, offer an alternative to those who find PostScript printers too expensive. The software puts PostScript in the computer, which means any printer can then print PostScript files. The disadvantages of these programs include extremely slow print time, inability to use Adobe typefaces and costly hardware requirements. Freedom of Press was the most highly recommended. It can print multicolor files, was the easiest to install and displayed the most information during printing. Freedom of Press can be purchased for $495, cheap in comparison to a $3,500 clone PostScript printer. Ultrascript PC Plus' winning feature was its ability to print directly from an application and Goscript Plus Edition was considered a good product not to buy.

Outside In 2.0: Outside In saves collaborative designers time and disk space
Article Abstract:
The $89 Outside In 2.0 software package from Systems Compatibility is a useful utility for easily viewing, importing, copying and printing 105 common Macintosh and Windows graphics, data base, text and spreadsheet file formats into graphics, page layout or word processor programs. The viewing function provides display of the target fonts and most formatting in word processing files, searching for text within a file and viewing of text and graphics files compressed with PKZIP software. Outside In 2.0 can be installed as part of the command structure of most word processing and electronic mail programs, as well as Windows File Manager, Norton Desktop and WordPerfect Office. The major drawback is the software's inability to view desktop publishing files. Outside In 2.0 is rated an exceptional value.
