Shooting the messenger

Article Abstract:

An increase in the number of journalists which are caught in military crossfire reporting from Iraq territory is observed. It is found that before the war the Pentagon asked media organizations in the US and Britain to withdraw their people from Baghdad and it was also made clear that they would not allow the presence of journalists to inhibit it from attacking areas of military significance.

A story of the US military unit known as Tiger Force that brutalized Vietnamese villages in 1967 was kept secret for more than three decades. The Blade, a family-owned newspaper in Toledo, Ohio uncovers conclusive proof of the Tiger Force war crimes, thirty-six years later.

The journalists in Iraq are using an innovative array of high- and low- tech stratagems in their bid to stay alive while on the job. It is believed that employees for Arabic media are more capable of blending into Iraqi society than Westerners but they face danger.
