Tamotsu Yagi

Article Abstract:

Graphic designer Tamotsu Yagi left Tokyo's Hamano Institute in 1984 to become Esprit's in-house art director. In seven years with the San Francisco clothing firm, he produced many award-winning and much-imitated designs. In 1991 he left Esprit to open his own studio. He comments on his work with Esprit and his interest in bringing a greater environmental sensibility to the design industry. A photographic portfolio of his work is included.

The human form is French-American graphic artist, photographer and TV commercial director Jean-Paul Goude's 'artistic obsession.' His advertising campaigns are often marked by 'body art' and a jumble of ethnic characters. He has created advertising for Chanel, Volkswagen, Kodak, Club Med and other major firms. Goude comments on his work, his values, his heritage and other topics. A portfolio of his work is included.

German graphic artist, copywriter, poster designer and university professor Uwe Loesch terms himself a 'communication designer.' Poster art represents an 'expansive message' for Loesch, and his posters depict a communication interruption that implies distance, but also a relationship. Loesch comments on his work and on the graphic design industry. A portfolio of his work is included.
