Under heavy construction

Article Abstract:

White Sciences's $499 Pagebuilder page makeup program is a menu-based graphics program with an array of layout construction materials. Lines, arcs, grids, ovals, and rectangles and figures can be produced; and closed figures can be filled. Business charts and graphs can be created from data previously entered into a speadsheet utility included with the program, or data can be imported from Lotus's 1-2-3 or Computer Associates's Super Calc. There is no way to vary leading; column styles are also limited. Pagebuilder is not easy to learn without programming experience. Pagebuilder requires an IBM XT AT or a compatible; 640Kbytes; a hard disk; and DOS 2.1 or later.

Open dialog: Pagemaker vs. Xpress

Article Abstract:

Publish! interviews Kevin Rardin and Jeffrey Marcus, the authors of reviews of Quark's Xpress and Aldus's Pagemaker 2.0, respectively. The programs are compared and contrasted; strengths and weaknesses of the programs are indicated. For example, Kevin Rardin would like to see Xpress include an export capability; it is not a proper use of a page layout program to force it to function as a word processor.
