A new Manhattan
Article Abstract:
The largest US bank, formed when Chase Manhattan N.A. and Chemical Bank merged in 1996, has a policy of reducing its volume of property. Chemical Bank reduced its London, England, property by 600,000 square feet in the four years prior to the merger. The merged bank has been able to consolidate its London presence in a total of 900,000 square feet of space on two sites at London Wall and Thomas More Square and plans to reduce this to 650,000 square feet by the end of 1997. The bank finds the rates and rents very high in London but nevertheless views the city as a major European location.

When stars collide
Article Abstract:
The 3 million pounds sterling Star Site leisure complex is planned to include a 30-screen cinema in addition to retail and food outlets. The Star Site is situated at the Spaghetti Junction of the M6 at Birmingham, England. The developers point out that the Star Site is a new type of leisure facility for the UK which should appeal to the six million people in the region. Some observers suggest that the complex will face increasing competition from new leisure developments within the city centre.
