A wrong turn on surveyors' damages?
Article Abstract:
There have been appeals in the UK courts over alleged negligence by surveyors and levels of damages which should be set to compensate for this. Surveyors have been seen as liable for the difference in price paid for the property, and that which would have been paid had the buyer been aware of the defects. This may be less than the total cost of carrying out repairs. Purchasers may pay more than a surveyor recommends and the surveyor should not be blamed for this, but in one case the court appears to have taken a different view.

Murphy's law: first inversion
Article Abstract:
A case involving defective real estate in London, England, meant the second owners of real estate could not take action over defective property against constructors and others. The case, Murphy v Brentwood District Council (1991) has affected courts in the UK, but elsewhere in the British Commonwealth it has not always been followed. New Zealand is one such country which rejected this ruling, and the Privy Council has examined this issue.
