New parts keep the engine running
Article Abstract:
The West Midlands, England, expects growth at an annual rate of 3% from 1994 to 1997. Manufacturing industry has benefited from a rise in exports which in turn has boosted employment. Automobile production has helped fuel economic growth in the region. Growth in manufacturing is likely to continue but the service and retail industries are more vulnerable to changes in government policies. A rise in interest rates would hit the construction industry and tax reductions would boost demand.
