Basque country, Spain

Article Abstract:

The Basque Country in Spain is enjoying an economic and cultural renewal, with the region increasing its strategic business potential in Europe via its infrastructure projects. Much of the infrastructure development is concentrated on airports, with the region's plan of increasing its market share in the international air cargo industry. The region has allocated $2.14 bil for its infrastructure development. Part of the regions attraction to corporate relocations are its liberal incentives packages, skilled labor and excellent communications facilities. The region is historically linked to important industrial sectors such as steel, capital goods and machine tools and is diversifying into high technology industries.

Basque country: bold contender for the 21st century

Article Abstract:

The restructuring of key industries has helped the Basque Country to redirect its economic growth for the 21st century. As a result, the Basque posted its highest foreign investment in 10 years at $650 million in 1994. Economic independence was achieved through the establishment of strategic industry clusters, which consist of companies focusing on particular services within a specific geographical area. These companies share research, joint ventures, marketing plans and technology and are encouraged to look outward to foreign markets to strengthen the presence of the Basque in the international economic market.

Philadelphia: a world-class competitor

Article Abstract:

Historic Philadelphia, PA, has more to offer than tourist sites and scenes. By the year 2000, Philadelphia may well be the central city for health care, biotechnology and materials development. With the advantages of a central location between New York and Washington, relatively low crime rate, adequate utilities and facilties, minimal traffic, environment consciousness and a skilled workforce, Philadelphia seems to have it all. Housing is in abundance for any budget and it is comparatively cheaper.
