Be big or de-list, you can quote me

Article Abstract:

The UK property industry is likely to become more uniform as corporate management grows more aggressive, companies go private and hostile bids are launched. There will probably be fewer, larger quoted companies, created by mergers and acquisitions. There will also be a trend towards companies going private, while fund intervention will mainly be investment bank-led. Property companies have a future, but only if they place strong emphasis on shareholder value creation.

Inflation and the housing market

Article Abstract:

Low inflation has a damaging effect on the growth of the British housing market because it lowers the financial return from property investment. The period of low inflation during and after the economic recession of the 1980's in Britain has reduced the British public's confidence in property purchase. The strong belief in home ownership, as part of the British culture, is likely to compensate for low inflationary conditions in the future.

The housing market in the 1990s

Article Abstract:

The housing market is currently performing badly. Property is no longer regarded as a good investment. This is due to the high level of repossessions and negative equity, and lower real and nominal prices. In April 1995, Professor Douglas Wood predicted that house prices would fall over the next 20 years in real terms.
