Blueprint for fun

Article Abstract:

Urban entertainment centres have long trading hours, offer a range of leisure activities and have a general air of excitement. A number of developers are aiming to create this kind of centre in new UK developments. Developments include Star City in Birmingham, which has a 30-screen multiplex, and the Printwork's development in Manchester, which includes a multiplex cinema, a casino, and nightclubs in its 23 units. Article Abstract:

Property development in the English towns of Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester is being encouraged by the mini tourist boom caused by the popularity of an unlikely tourist attraction, namely HMP Weare, a floating jail anchored in Portland Harbour. In nearby Weymouth, a new town-centre retail scheme, which will include a nine-screen multiplex, is in progress and due to open in early 2000. Meanwhile, a site adjacent to Weymouth Railway Station is being developed as a 6,039 sq mt retail warehouse park.
