Boardroom decisions

Article Abstract:

UK packaging firm Thompson Corrugated Board's decision to relocate from Norwich in Norfolk to Halesworth in Suffolk was influenced largely by the help given by estate agent Bidwells and the local district council. The firm's owners previously made cardboard boxes and wanted to start producing corrugated board. They therefore needed a building large enough to hold a 140 mt corrugating machine. Although the stand-alone building in Halesworth was not big enough, Bidwells' Tarnia Robertson and Waveney district council put great effort into arranging to extend the building.

Fancy footwork

Article Abstract:

UK shoe retailer Pied a terre has made a number of successful property deals, and has gradually been able to establish a presence in the most upmarket areas of London, England. However, it was negatively affected by a sublessee defaulting, and this led to it being purchased by US retailer Nine West after going into voluntary liquidation in summer 1996. It believes that backing from Nine West will allow it to establish a strong international presence.
