Edinburgh fringed

Article Abstract:

The Structure Plan for Edinburgh, Scotland, was not approved until 1997 and some observers suggest it is no longer relevant to the needs of the city. There is insufficient brownfield land to fulfill the demand for space in the future. Some areas of brownfield land will be unsuitable for redevelopment due to the high level of pollution. Local plans have mostly failed to address the problem of development around the Edinburgh bypass and therefore offer no guidance to planning officers. It has been suggested development will not be located around the bypass but nearer public transportation.

You take the high road...

Article Abstract:

National planning guidelines in Scotland issued in 1998 are failing in their aim of directing new development to town centres in preference to out of town sites. Because local councils differ in their approach, or ignore the new guidelines, developers are finding geographical loopholes in the new rules.
