Article Abstract:
There are eight top firms taking a major proportion of the UK commercial property market, including Chesterton, DTZ, Jones Lang Wootton, Savills, Hillier Parker, Grimley, Richard Ellis and Knight Frank, according to a survey. The combined companies represent 45% of the 770.55 million pounds sterling turned over by the 100 firms surveyed in 1996. The third division of 13 firms, earning 10-29 million pounds sterling, are mostly London-based partnerships and companies. Four firms reported profit of more than 4 million pounds sterling in the UK in their past financial year, including Strutt & Parker. Of the to 20 firms, more than half have directly owned offices abroad. There were special factors affecting performance, such as accounting errors, insurance claims and meeting redundancy costs.

Article Abstract:
A study of the office market in the City of London, England, found some 35% of those questioned considered location to be a vital factor in choosing new office space. The rental values of offices in the city have increased by 15%. Around 24% of respondents felt the maximum amount of rent they would be willing to pay would be between 21-35 pounds sterling per sq ft. A large majority of the respondents used a property consultant when looking for new space. Some 75 senior executives in major companies, occupying offices in the City of London, were interviewed by telephone.
