Five-year heritage plan to improve historical data
Article Abstract:
The five-year strategic plan being drawn up by the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England (RCHME) will involve establishing standards for the dissemination of heritage data. It is hoped that an inventory of 300,000 archaeological and maritime sites and 500,000 historic buildings can be made. The programme has begun with a survey of the city of Bristol, which has a considerable number of very old buildings.

Swindon honours railway heritage
Article Abstract:
The Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England, which has its headquarters in Swindon, UK, has published a history of the Great Western Railway, which at one time operated extensive locomotive and wagon works in the town. There are still 300 listed buildings associated with the Great Western Railway in Swindon. Some have now been refurbished and form part of the railway museum.
