Article Abstract:

The county of Surrey, England, has built its prosperity on new technology and the financial services sector, as well as its close proximity to London and the M25. However, the economic recession and the resultant slow growth in employment has caused the county's local economy to slip backwards. Surrey has traditionally relied on London for employment but is beginning to turn to local companies. Commercial property rental prices have fallen, but despite attractive rents, relocations are sparse. An overview of the commercial and industrial property market in Surrey is presented.

Article Abstract:

Hertfordshire council in England is committed to sustainable development, but its inflexible attitude towards planning has given it a reputation for over-regulation. In 1991, the council refused 25% of all planning applications for offices, 21% for retail and 17% for industrial. The county's unitary development plan requires all new development to positively contribute to its towns and the maintenance of its green belt is an important consideration.

Harvesting profits in the green belt

Article Abstract:

Maidenhead's proximity to Heathrow Aiprot makes it a popular choice for companies requiring office space. However, its development opportunities are restricted by planning rules and the wish to retain the town's country image. There are some 89 vacant office units available in the town, totalling 569,990 sq ft. Demand from communications and IT companies is high, reflected in rising rental prices.
