How sick is your building?
Article Abstract:
Sick Building Syndrome (SBS), which has been shown to cause a range of minor medical conditions in people working in the affected buildings, has no single cause, but has been linked to air conditioning, lighting, colour and noise. The condition can lead to unacceptably high levels of employee absenteeism, and the employer may be forced to respond by investing heavily in altering or replacing air conditioning, windows, office layouts or furnishings. Employers must also be aware that they have a duty under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 to ensure the health, welfare and safety of their employees.
