In a down market, bartering gives companies a boost
Article Abstract:
Companies may barter vacant office space for goods or services that they need. Bartering can give full purchase price value from trade credits and can avoid percentage losses for a company from leasing the space. One company, Deer Point Homes used partial barter agreement for two of its projects for home development, accepting downpayment amounting to $15,000 in barter for homes priced at $159,000. However, bartering offers no tax benefits because the Internal Revenue does not distinguish between barter and cash deals.
