Moving Beyond Tradition
Article Abstract:
In 1982, Howard Harpole bought State Federal Savings and Loan in Oregon. The small savings and loan was floundering. Working capital was raised through the sale of $22 million in low-interest fixed rate mortgages. The next move Harpole made was the acquisition of a mortgage originator. After making other internal operating changes the bank has turned itself around and today is showing a healthy profit.
