New York: making headway for high-tech
Article Abstract:
New York State's pro-business initiative to attract the semiconductor industry is named SEMI-NY which is an economic development program with a marketing component. Under SEMI-NY, an initiative was created that would pre-qualify and pre-permit a number of sites deemed essential by the semiconductor industry. Two agencies, namely, the Empire State Development and the Governor's Office of Regulatory Reform, set the standards for the locations and selected the most appropriate sites. The two agencies would also assist in permit applications, environmental reviews and site plans.
