Nokia wirelessly takes on the world

Finnish telecommunications firm Nokia has succeeded in developing its business into the second largest cellular phone maker in the world, next only to Motorola. The firm has tapped international markets has created offices in some 45 countries with about 36,000 employees. It posted 1996 revenues of $8 billion, improving over 1991's $3.2 billion. The company, which is eyeing the markets of the US, Japan, and China, has been able to anticipate growth in demand in emerging markets and use it to their advantage.

Peden & Associates' Katherine Peden: a woman who opened closed doors
Article Abstract:
Katherine G. Peden, economic development consultant, holds the distinction of being the first female state commerce commissioner, the first of her gender to be nominated for the Senate and the only woman on the Kerner Commission. Her career started in 1963 as the Kentucky governor's commerce czarina. Midway in her career, Peden formed her own company, Peden & Associates, which was instrumental in establishing new facilities such as business parks in her native Kentucky.
