The 'new' Valuation Office Agency

Article Abstract:

The future of the UK's Valuation Office (VO) is uncertain due to its shrinking workload and uncertainties about is continuing role in the public sector. The VO's tasks include council tax banding; work for the Inland Revenue; work for other public bodies and government departments; non-domestic rating; and its Crown property rating unit. The VO has already had to implement some restructuring measures, due to its falling workload and the fact that the VO is no longer guaranteed work but must tender for valuation work from public bodies and government departments.

Ringing the changes for office security

Article Abstract:

There are many elements which can be incorporated into an office design to help improve safety, and technological advances mean that landlords can offer a growing range of security measures. Buildings should not contain a labyrinth of routes, but a few clear routes to allow for 'self-surveillance'. Good lighting and atria which allow observation of a wide area are also useful design features. Other common security measures within offices include closed circuit TV cameras, security patrols and access control systems such as magnetic cards or computerised systems.
