On a clearer day

Article Abstract:

Local agents in Glasgow, Scotland, are divided over the actual level of demand for industrial space in the city. Some point out potential occupiers will pay higher rents for the right property in a good location. Others suggest the size of property is very relevant to market, with units of 10,000-2,000 sq ft in demand, yet units of around 30,000 remain vacant. Older buildings are also popular. Many developers are looking for investment from the public sector before starting new developments but the enterprise zone status of the area is about to end.

When the chips are down

Article Abstract:

Some local agents in the Tyne and Wear region, England, point out the economy of the area is slowing but not in recession. They report the demand for industrial space is still buoyant with some speculative building going ahead. Although larger spaces are more difficult to let. Other agents suggest the closure of the 1.1 billion pounds sterling Siemens AG plant will have implications for smaller firms in the area, which may find it difficult to survive. The UK government is examining ways of disposing of the 50 acre Siemen site.
