One giant leap...

Article Abstract:

The decision to locate the National Space Science Centre in Leicester, England, has the potential to significantly boost the city's status. Indeed, some observers believe that this development could spark off regeneration schemes in the whole area. A small number of developers are already considering high-profile sites in the north of Leicester to capitalize on the National Space Science Centre. There is particular potential in the leisure sector, with the waterfront location of the new facility possibly attracting pub and leisure operators.

Cultural transformation

Article Abstract:

Many projects funded by the Millennium Commission are underway across the UK. These schemes have generally had a positive impact on the property sector. However, their long-term sustainability is uncertain. Some observers feel that Millennium projects will prove unviable if they do not generate sufficient profit. Millennium schemes include the Millennium Square in Leeds, England, the Lowry arts complex in Salford, England, and the International Centre for Life in Newcastle, England.

The facts that refute the critic

Article Abstract:

The Walkergate Centre, a planned leisure complex in Durham, England, will have a positive impact on the city centre. Great care is being taken to ensure that the design is appropriate, and public consultation exhibitions have seen a very positive reaction. The development will attract large numbers of people to Durham, and will play a key role in securing the city's future. The city will benefit from having a secure, contained entertainment quarter.
