Opening doors: the Americans with Disabilities Act
Article Abstract:
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was enacted to ensure that disabled persons are guaranteed equal opportunities, treatment and services. A crucial element of the ADA is its requirement that physical and communication barriers in buildings be removed. So far, clear guidelines have not been formulated. Small businesses may have a problem complying immediately since they may not have the resources for building modification and redesign. It is therefore suggested that disabled persons coordinate closely with employers, tenants and building owners in threshing out implementation bottlenecks.
