Article Abstract:

Some observers suggest planning permission for the construction of new football stadiums is treated more favourably, by local authorities, than other projects. The Arsenal Football Club, London, England, was permitted to extend its buildings whilst other leisure operators would have been prevented in making such changes. Some new football stadiums are being constructed on contaminated land, whilst the old stadiums are sold for other uses, such as residential housing. New football stadiums often combine other leisure and some retail facilities within the new buildings.
