Issues are presented concerning the ruling by the House of Lords over the ability of landlords to repossess a premises if the tenant of the property becomes bankrupt. Tenants and landlords affected by this ruling are discussed.

The law governing rights of pre-emption in England is discussed. Rules which control the rights of tenants to acquire freehold or the landlord's right to regain the lease, and examples of case law, are examined.
