Corridors of power

Article Abstract:

The commercial real estate market near Leeds, England, is centered along the M62 freeway and towns located near the M62. Bradford, England, should benefit from demand from government departments such as the Inland Revenue. Halifax faces poor demand for office space though this may improve following the merger of the Leeds and Halifax Building Societies. Local government departments are important in the real estate market at Huddersfield, where existing space tends to be secondhand.

Putting prospects into perspective

Article Abstract:

Demand for industrial real estate is increasing in South Yorkshire, England. Distribution has maintained demand, while demand from manufacturers has begun to increase. There is a lack of level land ready for development within South Yorkshire, and pressure on space has increased at the large segment of the market. Sheffield Development Corp has reclaimed land which it has then disposed of and has helped attract funding from the private sector for areas such as the Lower Don Valley.

Tenant power drives energy savings

Article Abstract:

UK office tenants are seeking to cut their energy bills and are demanding energy-efficient buildings. Newer buildings are not necessarily more energy efficient. The 1980s real estate boom meant that some buildings were erected with systems being tested adequately. Air conditioning was often installed where it was not needed and many systems are not running at optimal capacity. Tenants are the catalyst for change, and environmental benefits are a byproduct of this demand.
