SS's 1999 business climate rankings: North Carolina, Ontario, USA repeat at No. 1

Article Abstract:

North Carolina, Ontario and the US once again topped the rankings in their respective categories in Site Selection magazine's 1999 survey of top business climates, which was categorized by US states, Canadian provinces and by nation. Thorough analysis of the rankings indicated some surprising changes when compared to the 1998 roster. For example, Florida and Alabama registered the biggest changes in ranking, with Florida moving to No. 4 spot from No. 10 and Alabama from No. 23 to No. 16.

California

Article Abstract:

California has rebounded from its economic troubles and dramatically improved its business climate since 1991. This is seen in its low unemployment rate, new jobs creation and record corporate revenues, non-residential construction and exports. The state's economy has outpaced the rest of the US in 1999. California has become a model for utilities deregulation. It is also attracting companies because of its regional approach to economic development.
