Slow condo unit claims more projects

Article Abstract:

Plans for the Lander Group's 2626 West Lake Street project and Brighton Development's The Portland, both in Minneapolis, Minnesota, were canceled due to a drop in buyer demand. The two cancellations follow other real estate projects that were cancelled due to the crunch in the condominium market.

The commercial mortgage-backed security market in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area is facing a problem with increasing loan supply and decreasing investor demand. The real estate markets in the area, however, remain healthy, with GDP growth estimates at 3.4% for the second quarter of 2007.

Commercial real estate developers should plan ahead and remain proactive to minimize exposure to the subprime loans crisis gripping the industry. These companies are not immune at all to the effects of the crisis.
