Stalled on the starting line

Article Abstract:

Controversy surrounds property development issues in Basingstoke, England. Agents are angered by the local council's apparent reluctance to fulfil its promise to sell freeholds in the town. The council owns approximately 40% of Basingstoke land and claims to have a clear policy to dispose of the freeholds to aid development in the area, but so far only five deals have been completed. Another controversial scheme is for a further retail development. The owner of the current shopping centre claims this scheme is not viable. Details of other developments in the town are included.

Amid sound ideas

Property agents report a number of different trends in the property market in the Midtown area of London, England. DTZ Debenham Thorpe believes that the main driving force behind this market will continue to be the legal profession around the Royal Courts of Justice. Allsop & Co reports that the main demand is coming from media companies, while Railtrack is seeing financial services and legal firms being attracted from the City. Limited supply in the West End is changing the profile of occupiers planning to move to Midtown.
