Stamped on by stealth
Article Abstract:
The introduction of high rates of stamp duty on UK properties will have a disastrous impact on the commercial property market, as the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown, has failed to provide an exemption clause for property builders. An over-heated housing market was the original reason behind the stamp duty rises, although the government is also seeking to have more new properties built on existing brownfield sites.
